Additional Rules for Xyz Monsters
The only Xyz Monsters allowed at the World Championship are the ones from Starter Deck: Dawn of the Xyz. In case you (or your opponents) decide to play with these cards, here some answers to a few basic questions you might find helpful:
- You cannot use Tokens as Xyz Materials. You can use Trap Monsters, though.
- If an Xyz Monster is flipped face-down, its Xyz Materials remain face-up and are still attached to it.
- If you take control of your opponent’s Xyz Monster, its Xyz Materials come with it.
- If you have monsters in all 5 of your zones, you can still Xyz Summon.
- Xyz Monsters do not have a Level. They can never have a Level. So they cannot be used for a Synchro Summon, etc. They are also unaffected by cards that are based on Levels, such as “Gravity Bind”.
- When an Xyz Monster leaves the field, its Xyz Materials are sent to the Graveyard.
Here are a few specific combo answers, for purposes of this tournament:
- “Sangan” will not get its effect if used as an Xyz Material and is then sent to the Graveyard.
- If you negate an Xyz Summon (with “Solemn Judgment”, “Thunder King Rai-Oh”, etc.) then the Xyz Materials are sent to the Graveyard. Effects like “Sangan” will not activate.
- “Dandylion” WILL get its effect if used as an Xyz Material and then sent to the Graveyard.
- “Plaguespreader Zombie” goes to the Graveyard if detached, even if it was Summoned by its effect before it became an Xyz Material.
- If D.D. Survivor is detached and banished because “Macro Cosmos” is active, Survivor does not Special Summon itself.
- “Secret Barrel” does not count Xyz Materials. But it will count Xyz Monsters.
- If “Dimensional Fissure” is in play, Xyz Materials that are detached are sent to the Graveyard instead of being banished, since they are not monsters.
- If “Macro Cosmos” is in play, Xyz Materials that are detached are banished instead.
- If “Skill Drain” is active, you can still Xyz Summon. The effects of the Xyz Monster are negated, but the Xyz Materials remain piled under the Xyz Monster.
- If “Interdimensional Matter Transporter” is used on an Xyz Monster, its Xyz Materials are sent to the Graveyard.
- “Skull Invitation” will inflict damage when an Xyz Material is sent to the Graveyard.
- You cannot use a monster named by “Prohibition” as Xyz Material.

What do these cards do when they resolve?
“Rivalry of Warlords” and “Gozen Match” are Continuous Trap Cards that make it so you can only control face-up monsters of 1 Type (for Rivaley) or Attribute (for Gozen).
When this Trap Card’s activation resolves, look at the face-up monsters you control. If they all have the same Type/Attribute, you don’t have to do anything else. If there are different Types/Attributes, you choose 1 Type/Attribute, and send your face-up monsters that aren’t that Type/Attribute to the Graveyard.
What monsters can I Summon while they’re active?
While Rivalry/Gozen is active and you have a face-up monster, you cannot Summon monsters that aren’t the same Type/Attribute as the monster(s) you already control.
So you can’t do any of the following to put a monster with the wrong Type/Attribute on your side of the field:
- Normal Summon
- Tribute Summon
- Flip Summon
- Xyz Summon
- Synchro Summon
- Fusion Summon
- Special Summon with a monster’s own effect.
- Activate a card or effect that can Special Summon only the monsters that are the wrong Type/Attribute.
While a Rivalry/Gozen is active, you can still Set monsters of any Type/Attribute, but you can’t Flip Summon them, and they’re sent to the Graveyard after damage calculation if your opponent attacks them.
You won’t get the effects of cards that need to be destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, because they’re sent to the Graveyard by the Trap Card’s effect instead. But Flip Effects will still activate.
Are there any Special Summoning cards and effects I can activate?
You can activate cards and effects that would Summon the same Type/Attribute monster as you have on the field.
You can also activate cards that would Summon more than one Type/Attribute of monster. The results depend on what you have on the field: If you DON’T control any monsters: You can activate cards that would Summon monsters with more than one Type/Attribute. All of them are Summoned, but you must immediately pick one Type/Attribute and send all others to the Graveyard.
If you already DO control a monster: First of all, if the Summoning effect targets, you can only target monsters with the right Type/Attribute. However, you can also activate cards that would Summon lots of monsters without targeting (like “Return from the Different Dimension”), as long as at least 1 of them is the right Type/Attribute. In this case, only the right monsters are Summoned to the field.
The same rule applies to the “Gladiator Beast” monsters. You can return a Gladiator Beast to your Deck and activate its effect as long as there is another Gladiator Beast in your Deck that you COULD Summon that is the same Type/Attribute as the one you returned. However, if you have no face-up monsters when the effect resolves, you can Summon any Type/Attribute of monster.
Can I take control of my opponent’s monster with the wrong Type/Attribute?
You can take control of an opponent’s monster that’s the wrong Type/Attribute with a card like “Mind Control”. If you do, it’s sent to the Graveyard immediately after you gain control of it.
Anything else I should know?
If you control no face-up monsters, you can Summon a monster of any Type/Attribute. Also, if Rivalry/Gozen is being negated, you can Summon monsters of any Type/Attribute. If it stops being negated, you have to send monsters to the Graveyard until you control only 1 Type/Attribute again, just like if Rivalry/Gozen had just resolved.
Update 08.08.2011
Also wie bisher. Klatsch:
ZitatAlles anzeigenAdditional Rules
During your turn, some actions you take will start a Chain. Other actions will not.
Examples of actions that start a Chain:
-Activate a Spell Card.
-Activate a Trap Card.
-Activate the effect of a face-up Spell or Trap Card.
-Activate the Ignition Effect or Quick Effect of a monster.
-A Trigger Effect activates. (Even though you don’t always get to decide when these happen, they still start a Chain, so they fall into this category.)
Whenever you do any of these:
Because you have just created Chain Link 1, your opponent gets to respond next and create Chain Link 2, if they want to. You can both keep building the Chain, going back and forth, following the rules regarding the Chain on pages 37-40.
Examples of actions that do NOT start a Chain:
-Normal or Tribute Summon a monster.
-Special Summon a monster.
-Synchro Summon or Xyz Summon a monster, or perform a Fusion Summon without using an effect (example: Gladiator Beast Gyzarus).
-Set a card.
-Manually change the battle position of a monster.
Whenever you do any of these:
You can keep priority, but only to start a Chain using a Spell Speed 2+ effect (a Trap Card, Quick-Play Spell, or monster’s Quick Effect) before your opponent can respond. If you do, build the Chain as normal.
IMPORTANT CHANGE ABOUT IGNITION EFFECTS:
The old rule was that you could also follow up on a Summon by immediately using an Ignition Effect. This exception to the rule has been removed. If you Summon, you can ONLY retain priority to activate a Spell Speed 2+ effect.
