    Afeni Shakur & her sister Gloria Cox, will arrive at Houston’s Astrodome on Thursday, September 8, to volunteer, hug, & lift the spirits of Families disrupted by Hurricane Katrina

    STONE MOUNTAIN, GA – On Thursday, September 8, Mrs. Shakur and her sister, Gloria Cox will visit Houston’s Astrodome, to volunteer, hug, love, & embrace the families taking shelter at the dome. “If my son were here, he would already be in Houston volunteering & lifting spirits,” said Afeni.

    Subsequently, on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 at 6PM in Stone Mountain, the newly-opened Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts (TASCA) will unveil a bronze memorial statue of Tupac Shakur that will occupy the center of the six-acre Peace Garden at a public ceremony. The unveiling will take place on the same day as the nine-year anniversary of Tupac’s tragic murder.


    Immediately following the ceremony, a service to spread healing, hope, & light will be held for families who are survivors of Hurricane Katrina. We invite those displaced by the Hurricane to join us as we share prayers, hugs, & hope. In addition, we are requesting donations of food, and other items from the public, which will then be distributed to those affected by the natural disaster. TASF has sponsored rooms for many of those whose lives have been tragically affected by the disaster and encourage others to do the same (see attachment).


    The initial unveiling ceremony will feature a special performance by the Tupac Summer Performing Arts Camp kids, as well as discussions with Ms. Afeni Shakur – Tupac’s mother and founder of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation (TASF) – and noted sculptor Tina Allen, the designer and creator of the Tupac statue.
